Class Clown

I moved everyone into another field as the bigger sods (horses) were leaning over the fences to reach the better grass on the other side, rather than making a clean plate of the grass they had.

It won’t do their old field any harm to be left to benefit from our Indian summer – there may even be a bit more grass growing, which would be nice for later on.

So off they all trotted.

Silver was busy being a big-boy with his best friend, Kappi.

The other two Minions were wandering about looking bored so I gave them their “toy box” and sat back to watch them play.

Waffle didn’t stay for long and came over to be hugged leaving Storm to play his favourite game – buckets!

Storm loves buckets.  Lots of buckets.  The more the merrier.  He takes them all out and investigates each one.

BN2A5907

I have seen one other pony do this but Storm likes to roll with his head in a bucket and I have no idea why.

Has anyone else seen this and couldn’t you just tickle that tumbly?

BN2A5911

Storm is the funniest of the three Minions.  He is an optimist and a clown with silly billy corkscrew bucking which he does when he is feeling very happy or done something very wicked.  It makes me laugh as he knows I will always forgive him.

He has the biggest sense of humour of the three and is always the clown.

(not sure about these black frame lines *sniff* – it was a speriment)

A Nice Peaceful Sunday

A lovely ride this morning on Haakon.  We went to the galloping track escorted by BeAnne and had an excellent blast up and down at full pelt.  It certainly blew the cobwebs away and Haakon was his usual incredibly safe and reliable self.

This afternoon was spent in the field with my boys.  I sat down, they ate and investigated and we had some lovely chats.

L1120145

There was also lots of mutual grooming between everyone.

And we all appreciated this Indian summer we are having.

L1120172L1120188

I love this photo as it makes BeAnne look ginormous in comparison to Waffle.  Yes, he is very small.

L1120217

Actually both him and Storm are still tiny but very very cuddly.

L1120218

The horses quickly surrounded me with Klængur standing over me.  He has the kindest eyes and some days he just wants to be with me.

I made a short film of my perspective while sitting in the field.  I would probably not sit like this with the mares, though.  Geldings and a stallion are far calmer to be around and I am always watching them for any change in behaviour or situation.

A Proper Pea Souper

I can’t see beyond my nose for the fog that descended the minute there was mention of incredible Northern lights over the next few nights due to a mahoosive solar storm that zapped the Earth last Wednesday.

BN2A5853

Depressed muchly. I had even set up two cameras (one for movies, one for stills), found memory cards, worked out which bit went where, even RTFM’ed before turning the house upside down twice looking for a specific left-handed blivet that attached a camera to a tripod.

So now fog.

BN2A5854

Of course the horses made the most of this and promptly hid, making no noise at all.  I would have had to walk round the 20 acre field had it not been for Taktur’s internal alarm clock that tells him whether he has had his grub for the day.

Today was Haakon’s turn for the a ride.  I had wanted to take him the galloping track, which I was reliably informed had been opened, but didn’t want to risk our safety riding on the road with almost nil visibility so we stuck to the school. Maybe tomorrow.

I also had a quick Minion.  It was lovely and the boys are growing a good winter coat now.  Their little noseys remain delicious and infinitely kissable.

It is eerily silent outside.

My theory is that the birds don’t dare fly much in the fog in case they bump into each other!

There must be something in the water

Everyone is totally mad today.

BN2A5725

I took Klængur out for a ride by himself and he managed to spook at two rabbits, a yellow flower and a rock that looked at him in a funny way.

To recover our nerves, I sat in the field and watched Storm talk to his best friend, BeAnne.  For once BeAnne didn’t get arsey and snap.  Instead she turned upside down and let him tickle her belly. She loves this and will employ anyone if it means they will comply.  Every time Storm stopped, she stretch out her front paws to gently push his nose back down to tickle her.  She is clever!

Later, I heard dur-dur-dur, dur-dur-dur, dur-dur-dur…..

Taktur was galloping up and down the fence as fast as he could with The Minions.

BN2A5735 BN2A5743 BN2A5812

I wasn’t sure if he was going to be horrid to them so stayed to watch.

BN2A5815

Taktur did split up the little group and picked out little Storm.  I didn’t like that and made my feelings very clear about bullying.  I was not convinced this was a good game.  Funnily enough all the little boys galloped to be behind me.

BN2A5835

And just as quickly as they had started, they stopped totally puffed out and started grazing.

Full Moon perhaps?

Missing Forelock

I took Haakon into the school today, looked at him, looked at him some more and tried to see what was different about him.

IMG_1820

And then I noticed – his forelock is missing.

This is Haakon a few months’ back.

BN2A1007 copy

And this is today, just now in the field.  His forelock has lost volume, substance and is rather straggly.

BN2A5652-2BN2A5653-2

He doesn’t look like the Haakon I have known all his life.  Most strange.  A different face looks at me now.

BN2A5655-2

I mean obviously Haakon does not try to attain the standards of His Frilledness.  That would be impossible.

BN2A0577 copy

So I asked the obvious culprits and they all denied any wrong doing.  I do believe them as Haakon doesn’t play with them ever and barely acknowledges their existence.

Storm’s forelock has always been a bit silly.

BN2A5671-2

Waffle’s is a thing of great beauty.

BN2A5682-2

While I was pulling out the last of the nasty bits which has resulted in a bit of a scalping for poor Silver.  Hopefully it will grow back!

BN2A5684-2

And then the penny dropped.  Haakon’s forelock has only gone missing since the return of a certain black Icelandic stallion (his name begins with “T” and ends with *actur) who likes to play.  Now I am not going to jump to any conclusions and I dont suppose there is anything I can do about it anyway, but I am watching everyone like a hawk.

BN2A5691

I liked Haakon’s forelock.  It was one of his better bits.

***** sigh *****
