Today in Films

A few short films for you to peruse at your leisure.  I took them around and about today.  A regular day at Thordale, I suppose.  Looks fairly normal to me but others might disagree.

Anyway, I have been on my feet all day so I hope these will make up for endless narration.

Lambie “makes friends” with Waffle in his own unique way!  Waffle is, of course, intrigued and thinks this is a perfectly normal method of offer of friendship and is now considering using this technique for himself.

(sorry no sound)

BeAnne and her sofa, sorry, cough, BeAnne and Iacs.

(sorry no sound)

Taktur, BeAnne and Storm.  Taktur stands tied up and is a good boy.  Storm is on the rampage and BeAnne nods off.

(sorry no sound)

The Song of the Shetland Pony Bum Rub!  Tiddles has an itchy arse.  There is sound with this.

Enjoy!

Mr Grumpy

Iacs is not an easy patient.  He is very grumpy about being restricted around the house and hates being away from the herd.

This morning, after mucking out, I tied him up in the stable and undid his poultice in preparation of a soaking his foot to put on a clean dressing.

I arrived with my bucket of hot water and was stopped in my tracks by Iacs who drank it down to the bottom.  So off I went to boil another kettle and start again.

Today, Iacs is sporting a leopard print bandage to reflect his dark mood.

I felt sorry for him.  He hates illness and was shouting his head off for his friends, so I gave him a big hug and worst of all, he let me.  He is not a hugging chap so he must be feeling rotten.  Afterwards I let him make the silage bale his own close personal friend.

He did his best to get to know it very well.  Well done Iacs!

We were tidying the shed (or mucking out as it is known) as I tend to unwrap bails, leave the bail-wrap everywhere and trip over the orange string.  As ever, we had help.

L1200250

Lambie and Iacs supervised to check we were doing it properly!

L1200251

This evening, I gave in in and let the horses inside.  Iacs was thrilled to see his friends and is sharing with Klaengur and Haakon.  So thrilled, in fact, he is now limping on the other leg!

I give up.  I really do.  (Daisy?  Come home and sort out your horse!)

A Day of Clatch

Today was officially a Day of Clatch.  It rained, rained and rained some more, with an added gale just for good measure.

But, it was not cold and no one was shivering – just wet, very wet.

I have been loading the field feed buckets with silage while Les Grandes Dames have free range and just help themselves around the bale.

Iacs is now indoors as I have discovered, I think, his ailment.  He has a hoof abscess.  His left front smells like a dead dog so he stood in a bucket of hot water while we listened to the radio together, and then I put on a hot poultice and wrapped it up.

Iacs must live in the little stall for a while.  Obviously he has the finest nursing staff ministering to his every whim.

I volunteered two Minions as well.

Meanwhile, in the “new goat shed”, Taktur and his mini-me, Waffle, are living together.

IMG_2512

Taktur usually lives with Kappi but once Kappi sees that shed, he takes up permanent residence and won’t allow anyone else in.  Taktur and Waffle share happily and it is very funny to see two “identical” heads poking out.

When I was dishing out the silage this evening, Kappi grabbed the first bucket load.  Little Hjalti came up and asked if he could share and Kappi put his ears back and bit him.

Instantly, Hetja appeared telling Kappi exactly what she thought of his disgusting manners to her beloved son.

When I looked back, Hetja and Hjalti were happily together eating Kappi’s silage.

I put out more silage.  Buckets and buckets so everyone had a good pile.

Never cross Hetja.  She don’t take prisoners.  Kappi found out.

Barricaded myself in!

If Lambie and Ster had their way, they would be living in the house.

If I lived by myself, I would probably let them but I don’t so I can’t and folk would judge me as even odder than they do already.

I also like airing the house as often as I can.  To do this, I open the front door and the back door thus creating a good draught.

Since the arrival of Lambie, this has not been very achievable because if he spies the front door open, he comes running in to tell me he is here.

So I invented my new Anti-Lambies Barricade (patent pending).  It’s previous life was as a concertina clothes airers (I had broken it putting wet heavy horse rugs to dry) but it now makes a superb gate which even Lambie has not worked out how to get through.

L1200183

The boys were intrigued to start with.

L1200185

There was a small committee meeting about the best way to tackle this obstacle.

L1200187

Agreement was reached.

L1200188

The plan was for Lambie to stare it into submission while Ster prayed to his Gods.

L1200189

No result, so Lambie had one of his woolly tantrums, which are very funny (must never laugh, though as that would hurt his feelings).  He is a thenthitive theep.

L1200191

Lambie tried his hardest to come in but nope, the rest of him wouldn’t follow.

L1200192

Then Plan B was executed – the begging and the guilt trip

L1200195

An offer of kisses but I had to remain resolute.  No Lambies in the house. Apparently it is The Law.  OH says so.

L1200196

And then, to add insult to injury, BeAnne (and Loki) showed just how easy it was to come in, go out, come in and go out endlessly.

L1200197

At that stage Lambie and Ster went off in a depression to poo and pee in the silage bale as revenge.

Turmeric Taches

I have started feeding “Golden Paste” to Iacs and Haakon.

(you may be aware that Delia has been eating this for a while now and I think I can see a difference in her gait – she is far less stiff.)

L1200219

“Golden Paste” is a mixture of turmeric powder, coconut oil and freshly ground black pepper.  I make up a batch every few days.

L1200221

Click here for the Recipe (it is very easy to make – only takes a few minutes.)  There is a human and other animals’ version too.

L1200227

So why is Iacs having Golden Paste?

I am giving it to him because he is stiff in his front legs and he is in a constant dwaam these days.  Could he be doitin‘?  I hope not. He is turns 21 this year..  Anywho, turmeric is good for humans who are suffering from brain disfunction and arthritis, so I thought it could only help.  Iacs loves turmeric and sports the best golden moustache.

L1200245

(it may help his silly-frilly too!)

L1200222s

Haakon has been on turmeric for a few months now.  He is not a huge fan of eating it but, if Iacs is after his bucket, then he makes more of an effort (Circling Vulture Syndrome).  As Haakon is an older gent and in full work. I don’t want him to stiffen up and all I can say is that his tölt has never been better.  We black-and-decker all over the place at varying speeds and he goes like a train.  I love my boy and want him to live forever.

L1200232

Klængur loves Golden Paste in huge chunks and will eat it “raw” from my hand (the others have it mixed with chaff).  He doesn’t need it but he likes it so why not.

L1200234

So, we have golden noseys and I think (ever the sceptic) that Golden Paste actually does help my old boys.  For as long as they want to eat it, I will make it.

L1200247

As I said, it is really very little bother.
