Hard Work Pays Off

Ladles and jellyspoons, may I present to you, my daughter….

Daisy Taylor, BSc (Hons), MSc (Dist)

Oh yes. Get in!

For the past two years, since returning from Norway, Daisy (my elder daughter) has been enrolled at The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh studying online a Masters degree in Equine Science.

We’ve just found out that she has passed, and even better, with Distinction.

Plus, and I do have to really boast here, she has won the Equine Science Dissertation Thesis Award. A prize. She gets a prize so of course we will, en famille, all travel down to Edinburgh in November to clap and cheer when she is graduated/presented or whatever they do.

And Daisy worked hard. Really hard. She spent many hours slaving away attending online lectures, writing up and colouring in.

Her dissertation was a massive labour of love – Seasonal variation of time budgets in domesticated male Icelandic horses at pasture (a catchy title).

In Daisy’s own words “This study aimed to assess the seasonal variation in behaviour and body condition of seven domesticated Icelandic geldings and one stallion at pasture during winter and spring in fair weather conditions by utilising visual and indirect methods of observation.”

She received a Distinction for this as well as the whole degree.  Oh my!

Anyway, all I know is that she was outside all hours watching our herd of Icelandic horses kitted out with a variety of methods for keeping warm and, more importantly, alive.

We are all thrilled for Daisy. All her hard work has paid off and now it is even more official – she is brilliant!

Congratulations to your daughter and yourself (you raised her after all)! Does this mean she is a animal doctor or is she working on it? My ignorance of how things are there is colossal!

Doesn’t it make ones heart and chest swell with great pride to see what our offspring can do, pretty much, on their own when they are given the opportunities to put their best efforts forward.
Congratulations to Daisy, and by extension, her supportive family. At least three very hearty cheers to you all.

Congratulations to one and all! She has done so well in school and now on to what and where……..? The ponies deserve a tad bit of congrats too as they provided the fodder (pun intended) for which Daisy could make the studies.

You make up a very, very special family, each one of you contributing so much! MMR

Congratulations to Daisy, and all her support system: human, ovine, feline, canine and of course equine. I am especially in awe that you accomplished this online. It takes determination and excellent time management to do your studies that way. I taught some online classes for years and it takes lots of structure and work on both sides of the “isle” no pun intended. Look forward to the blog and pictures of the festivities in November.

Congratulations to Daisy! What a great accomplishment. May many good things come her way. Perhaps she needs a visit to the US & Canada to continue her studies

Frances – I very rarely comment but wanted to add my congratulations. Both Daisy and Flossie are wonderful young women who have both excelled in their academic studies. Daisy has now got a brilliant result in her Masters Degree. What next – Daisy, a PhD or do you want a deserved break from your studies? Frances, both your daughters are a great credit to themselves as well as you. They’ve both learnt that hard work and dedication pays off. I really love seeing them with the ponies and to read about what they are both doing – Flossie with her embroidery and now, of course Daisy with the splendid results from her course. It is so obvious that you all love the horses and minions. The love shines from all of you. I wish you all the best for the future – and please let us see some pictures of the celebrations in November. Jan xx
