How to Train a Dragon

Daisy and Dreki today. I wanted to see what she was doing with him.

Catching in the field.

Leading nicely away from his friends.

Going helpfully through the gate on his own.

(I love his little face!)

The support team.  Dad and half-bro.

Not minding about leaving the herd and leading nicely.

A few laps of the school, learning Daisy’s body language, concentrating and listening.

Reward!

Then Daisy attached the lunge line to his headcollar.

To date, Dreki had only lunged on both reins in walk.

So today she asked him to trot and he thought that was great!

Lots of listening to verbal commands.

More trotting in a circle.

Who knew?

“Was I a good boy?  Was I?”

Daisy sorting the lunge line out and changed the rein.

A small bit of knitting.

And off Dreki went again.

Looking very nice and calm.

“I was a good boy on this rein too, wasn’t I?”

“Trot?  Certainly. I can do that.”

Afterwards, Daisy put a saddle on Dreki.

And they went for a walk.

She flapped the saddle flaps and he stood there quietly.

All good.

And when Daisy took off the saddle, she showed it to him.  Dreki was fascinated.

So all good.  We are very pleased with him. Early days of course, but these foundation blocks are essential in Dreki’s training.

Little Lambs

I have been working on a new addition(s) to my Sheeple family who I sell to help with the Minion bills.

There are now little lambs!

I think they are very sweet and, although they look simple, they are little devils to make.  I find their ears are getting bigger.  I need to work on my skills.

But they also have dear little botttooooms!

(and I think they would make the cutest film too).

Obviously, because they are handmade, they are not all the same size and they are each different.

Once I made these three little spuds, I decided to give them some “grown-ups” to sit with and took photos for the blog.  I was happy with them.

But BeAnne didn’t want to go in for her tea, she was happily asleep in front of the fire, so I made one more –  an experiment really.

And I call him Spud!

He looks like a Spud.

Anyway, I hope you like them.  I am also thinking of starting a Facebook page to add my creations as I make them.

They are all for sale.   Little ones are £12 each and curly ones, like Spud, are £15. “Grown-ups” are £20 each and curly ones £25.

It is Time

While Floss and I have been out feeding and lugging water to the Minions et al, etc, Daisy decided to start work with Dreki.  It is time.  He is 4 years old this June and has a mature head on his shoulders as well as being built like a brick out-house.

She tells me that Dreki is learning to lunge in walk (so far) and worn a saddle but no stirrups (with girth done up, and everyfink). While he is more than happy to leave the herd and come into the school by himself, Efstur, shouts his head off telling his best friend (and half bruvver!) to come back!  He leads nicely and has good manners. He lifts up each hoof for picking out without drama.  Little things but all essential and all done in a happy calm manner.  So far, Dreki is very interested in everything and seems unflustered.  We set him up to succeed at every stage ending on a good note.  He is a dear boy.

(*** sniff *** I am having a proud Mum moment)

My little dragon is all growed up.

Got Stuck

This is who greeted us this morning at 08.30 when we went to feed all the sheep, ponies, horses, etc.  Father and son, methinks.

Breakfast, BeAnne’s pills and potions, and then off to feed the Minions (while putting out fresh water for the Icelandic Ladies en route).

It was a glorious day as Floss and I noted while the car slid down the track to Leradale with the air of one that might not actually make it back up the track again.

\

Brakes?  What brakes? Those are for wimps!

Luckily, we saw our neighbours (who were trying to un-stuck their car at the top of the track), so while we completed our Minion chores, they put down salt and grit on the track.  I tried my best but my car got stuck half-way up their track!

But with three people behind (neighbours plus Floss), they pushed my car to the top of the hill where their car was also stuck.

And luckily, again, a few days ago OH had given me a tow rope for my car muttering “just in case and you never know”.

So I towed my neighbour’s car out for them to say thank you for pushing me up the hill!

From henceforth my car is not going down the track to Leradale. We will park at the top and lug.  It’s the only way.  Everyone has to be checked, fed and watered. We will manage.

Still, it was a beautiful day for it just very hard work!

Photos from my wee potter with BeAnne after lunch.

One of Those Days

I’ve had one of those days.  Don’t ask but it involved copious amounts of snow, hitting my head hard (owie), being hassled and some other classy (not) crap.

Anywho, here is a picture of our home, from the road.  Lots of snow today which looks beautiful but hell to drive in.

The sea is freezing too.  I find that a very strange phenomenon to get my head around.

So I made two films this week to try and sell my sheep as the shop that usually sells them is closed for the duration.

This one has a nice little soundtrack.

(and this film appears to have lost its soundtrack, but you get the gist – I think I removed all the “extras: as our broadband has almost ground to a halt.)

Anywho, if you want to buy a Sheeple, please let me know – I am happy to post anywhere at cost.

Not feeling the ❤️ today.  Sorry xx
