It was a beautiful morning – still, no wind with a winter beautiful light. There had also been a frost from last night. There was even ice on the water buckets – the first this winter.

But the horses and ponies were all on good form and pleased to see me.

I even got a smile off Tiddles!

But I am still a-dithering about putting rugs on the old horses and ponies tomorrow and, if I do, I will become that person who I hate most – she who asks for advice and then does exactly the opposite because it wasn’t really advice that was wanted but confirmation that this was the right thing to do – ie, put the rugs on!

I have looked ahead at Accuweather and it is going down to -11℃ (real feel) tomorrow night or as OH just said, when I told him, “Blimey!”

So I will keep on dithering for the time being and see what like tomorrow.

Everyone would agree that I know nothing about horses or ponies. My most gratifying equine moment was bumbling around a Kentucky horse farm that was strangely, momentarily deserted & finding & bonding with a triple crown winner who looked at me as his personal masseuse until the trainer appeared & screamed at me for being near this ‘aggressive & mercurial horse.’ I wanted to point out that the horse was the one who demanded rubs, but I apologized & pitied the gorgeous horse stuck with such a trainer. However, if I were facing ‘blimey’ weather, animal softee me would bundle everyone in horse Burberry’s, but I know nothing about horse/pony weathering.
Crikey, wind chill of minus 11 – you have every right to be dithering,
I think it’s easy to forget that because your herd look in such good condition that the three Icelandics and Fivla & Vitamin are very old folk, and I know I feel the cold much much more as I get older, so maybe they do too?
we were discussing today weather to put a light stable sheet on our 19 year old pony. she has grown quite fuzzy but the nights at the barn are cold. and I am old and bony and hate being cold. we opted to dress her. gorgeous light!
Good to know
