The Many Moods of Lambie

Lambie, talk to me, please….. Or at least say hello.

Ok, well bad light (end of the day), so bad photo.

(then he walked off with the others while I was left to shut the gate and put the ducky-wuckies to bed.  Thanks, guys, don’t wait for me. I’ll just catch up later!)

Attempt #2.

Hi Lambie. Is that a Winning Smile for me?

Hang on, let me just put the flash on the camera…… faff, faff ….. but, no.  Fail.  Typical Lambie and possibly typical me too.

Ok, let’s go for natural light from the house’s outside lights and you can look like the majestic sheep you are and I am at a distance (Anyone want him for a Nativity Play – he looks like he is listening to the Angel Gabriel annoucing the birth of Jesus to the shepherds).

And there it is…. Lambie’s Winning Smile.   But, to be completely truthful, this was taken on a different day while I was holding a large box of treats!  I am very well trained.

Weighing and Farrier Day

Today we had lots going on.

Monika came from Sandness Equine Services with her weigh scales so she could weigh all the Shetland ponies for me.

Fivla and I were hopeful that she had lost loads of her summer weight.  We were corrected – 3 whole kg was all that had gone!  We tell each other that at least she hasn’t got any fatter.

Vitamin had lost 6 kg and she’s not even on a diet!

Meanwhile Stephen was busy trimming hooves, pony after pony.

Some behaved better than others.  Some were utterly appalling – that would mostly be Storm and Tiddles who would not be caught.  Tiddles even barged through the field gate when I took Storm out and then trotted in circles around me giggling and refusing to be caught.  I was deeply ashamed.  Whoever says animals have no sense of humour has not owned Shetland ponies. That’s all I am saying.

Monika weighed everyone.  The actual Minions have all put on weight – 6kg to 25kg (thank you, Waffle) but winter is coming and they have shelter, old grass and can shiver it off gradually before they go back on the track in the spring.

Of course it might be by adding Pepper that’s piled on those extra kilos for Waffle.

Some of you might remember, we used to do this with BeAnne who was a keen equestrian.

So it only seems right that Pepper continues the tradition and Waffle was very happy to let her onboard.

A huge thank you to Monika.  Her help was invaluable and without her, I would probably still be running round the field after 8 sniggering little ponies.

A Few Snappity Snaps

A quiet day, weather-wise so, when I went to collect my forgotten phone (I leave it everywhere), I popped into the Finnigert field with my big camera to take a few snaps.

Two sets of ears appeared in the small walled garden where the gooseberry bushes live.  Waffle and his friend Storm, had clambered in.

I could hear the wicked thoughts.

And I had a fair idea what was about to happen….

…. and I was right. Thank you, Storm!  Every time a coconut.

By comparison, Albie was looking like a saint.

He is always a very pretty pony.

After this photo, he followed me around trying to get in my pockets.

Wee Newt is sporting his winter woolly yak look.

Don’t be fooled by this pathetic nobody-loves-me face.

He is a wee 💩 during breakfast with his bottom twitching and whizzing around in every direction.

Tiddles was his usual self….

…..while Silver was keeping himself a bit away from everyone.

And lastly the old ladies.  Vitamin looked suspiciously at me, wondering why I had returned.

We had a chat and I told her that I loved her because she has teddy bear ears.

And Fivla was her usual enigmatic self.

Peaceful Day

I had a well-deserved (in my opinion) quiet day today. I spent the morning packing boxes, weighing and printing postage labels to send off tomorrow.

And the afternoon saw me in my shed making a “curly” lamb for a friend. My protocol is Earl Grey in my tea bowl watching Murdoch Mysteries while I stab away trying not to catch my fingers.  I am getting better at the latter.

The dogs came too as their monthly delivery of dog chews had arrived and they are working their way through the box.  One each, once a day.

Ted’s has recently had his quarterly wash and trim at the dog-groomers so he is now looking less like “a greasy Muppet” (Daisy’s words, not mine) and more like a gorgeous boy.

So handsome.

Both Pepper and Ted quickly finished their chews and were obviously looking for more.

I said “smile for the camera, please”.

And then I noticed them having a chat afterwards.  I wonder what they said.

It’s probably just as well I don’t know.

Now to make a trillion of these – I have a large order ahead to complete and only 5 more series of Murdoch Mysteries!

A Christmas Craft Fair

I’m not gonna lie, I love a craft fair, I do.

And anyone who knows me, will know I also enjoy selling.

But….. I have a standard. I only sell what I believe in so, imagine my suprise when I discovered our new tenant (at Finnigert) was a very skilled woodworker and, like all artists, does not enjoy selling his creations.  Obviously, I offered my selling skills to his wife and off we set this morning to grab a late cancellation table at a Craft Fair in Lerwick.

The Fair took a while to warm up, but folk eventually arrived.

And, yes, every child that walked past, I quoted my best Harry Potter Leviosa spell – ‘It’s leviOsa, not levioSA!’  One enchanting girl grinned from ear to ear when I said that!

It was easy – such gorgeous pieces.

They sold themselves.

There were obviously other tables and I had a peruse.  I need someone to knit me the fingerless gloves on the right! I could possibly obtain the pattern (I have fat hands, so you know).

I may have, at a previous Craft Fair, bought my weight in these chocolates – stocking presents, you understand.  The lady gave me a freebie, as I think she felt sorry for me as none of it was for me!

And I bought these for the tree – ideal as they are enclosed and a small dog/cat/other dog can’t eat them.  We are all hopeful for a Christmas tree this year as we  haven’t had one in two years.  Strategically placed Hygge branches are not going to cut it this year.

And home, via the local shop, to buy Frazzles, a bottle of whisky and a big bar of chocolate (the last two of which I will share with OH).  I am knackered from smiling and being nice, though it wasn’t difficult as the pieces I was selling were high craftmanship and I don’t say that lightly.
