Feet and Tails

A beautiful sunrise this morning (07.42 to be precise).  I was up and at ’em.

The little boys seem a lot happier. They are “back to normal”, well, what is normal for them.  I am relieved and will resign myself that they must stay in longer, at least until the farrier comes at the beginning of next month.

Obsessed with feet now, I decided to pick out and clean everyone’s hooves. It is not something I do regularly.

And then I went back and cut everyone’s tails too.  The Icelandics’ were very long and I hadn’t noticed. Poor Klængur got the equivalent of “a pudding bowl cut” from his mother.  It is a bit short but it will grow out (she now types hopefully!)

When I picked out Iacs’ hooves, a slug fell out. I think I removed his brain then.

The boys were “helpful” and everyone was done quickly and without the need of a headcollar.

Poor Bibble. I hope he’s not lonely without his slug-friend.

Frances, your back will be reminding you of this activity.!! I scrubbed out duck/goose pools yesterday. three kiddie wading pools 4 feet in diameter and 12 inches deep, My back is NOT happy.
Tomorrow we will do the two stock tanks each 5 feet in diameter and 2 feet deep. The birds have steps to get in and out 😉 Carrying 24 # landscape bricks for the steps, also did a number on my back !!
What we won’t do for our critters. But needed to get these chores done, because Fall/winter is approaching. We have had 21 degree F days and had to break ice. In the past the ducks hit the tank and slide across the frozen water. I decided that ice skating is not good for them so we break up the water before they come out of their night time sleep house.
fingers crossed for your back health 😉

Poor Klaengur … just remind him of the difference between a bad haircut and a good one ….. About six weeks .

Glad the little boys are looking better .. sounds like you caught them just as they were beginning to feel symptoms. With your eagle eye forever present they’d be hard pressed to smuggle sore feet past you!

I, too, was thinking about what damage you might have done to your back from picking out all those feet! Hope you are taking all precautions this evening, Frances!

They were all so good, so it as very little effort. I just say “up, up” and they pick up the foot.
