Berkshire and Shetland

I am currently looking after my mother, her dog and helping with the garden.  Watering, mainly with occasional weeding.  I am not a natural gardener at all. Not like my mother.

The garden is ever changing and looks beautiful.

Mum walks around it regularly as physiotherapy.

Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose – my great grandmother’s first cousins were the children, Dorothy and Polly, in the famous John Singer Sargant painting.

Mum always loves growing her lilies.

Mum is also very keen on growing dahlias.  This particular one seems to be “different” – it is growing a flower on both sides of the flower.  I can’t find any information on this type of mutation.  Is it some kind of mistake?

A pretty mistake, though.

Every morning Pip and I go on our dog walk. sometimes seeing the shy deer and also to feed the  ducks and geese.

Meanwhile, back at home, Wussums has taken up residence on my newly vacated desk.  I tell myself that it is his way of showing how much he misses me.

Anywho, life goes on.  Being in a different part of my world is not bad (apart from the appalling summer heat).  Just different.

Oh yes, I have a cold too. I hate a summer cold ** whinge, whinge **

What a fabulous garden. The roses are superb! And I love the last picture of the dandelion ‘clock’.

    Awww…Pip is so cute!
Your mom is fascinating, Frances! With all that collecting, the (really, really) green thumb, porcelain dogs, and famous cousins – I’d love to see a picture of her (when she’s feeling better).
Her garden is just gorgeous, I hope she’s on the mend. And what a fantastic place she’s made to walk around in, for therapy.

P.S. I’m with you on the gardening. I call our front and back yards “creative examples of benign neglect”

I hope you feel better soon!
Lovely garden and beautiful flowers! The mutation(?) makes it look like a mum!

What a wonderfully delightful garden your Mum has. I really enjoyed seeing the lovely photo’s as I love gardening and love seeing pictures of other people’s gardens. Don’t think I could achieve anything near like your Mum’s, but I love pottering and trying. Got a feeling pussy cat may be missing you, or has he just decided that the desk is now his. How long will you be staying in Berkshire?

The odd dahlia is an anomaly . I grow them too. Your Mom is fortunate that she doesn’t need to dig them up in the Fall! I hope she has some help with her lovely garden – it looks a bit daunting for one person.

Love the gardens and the tiny bird. Wussums is merely establishing his reign over all things.
Hope your Mum is doing better.
