Arrived!

Well, that’s me. I got here relatively unscathed but leaving a couple of disasters in my wake.

  • I lost my coat and found I had left it in the pub last night (thankfully open this morning with their own B&B guests so I managed to retrieve it – phew!)
  • My shampoo managed to leak all over the contents of my overnight bag (bastard thing!)
  • there’s probably more calamities – I just haven’t discovered them yet!

Anywho, someone was very pleased to see me, though!

Floss has been holding Mum’s fort wonderfully while she is currently in hospital.

My drive south was fairly smooth apart from the world and his wife trying to phone me. I couldn’t answer because a) I don’t know how to while I am at the wheel (I may have to investigate this) and b) I don’t like talking to anyone when I am trying to concentrate.

This is what I look like when anyone phones me while I am driving!

There’s lots of colour in the garden.

Autumn has most definitely arrived.

The last rose of summer (actually there are a few in the garden).

So, I did it. I drove 547 miles (it feels longer).  I am beginning to know the road.

TEDDY!!! I just got distracted from that happy air hug.
Um, sorry about the leaking shampoo but happy to learn you found your wandering coat. Your Mum’s garden is always spectacular. We have 1 last New Dawn Climbing Rose who refuses to acknowledge it is October in New England. Keeping your Mum in my thoughts.

Glad you arrived safely. Hope your mom is on the mend.

I’ve learned the hard way to seal any bottles with liquids or creams into zip lock bags when traveling. Also lipstick, if the luggage might get too warm. Sigh.

Will you get to have Flossie with you for a few days?

What a lovely welcome! And I bet Flossie was equally pleased to see you! I’m sorry to read that your mum is in hospital – I hope she will be able to get home quickly. I’m sure she’ll appreciate your care when she does. Remember to take care of yourself. x

So very happy to hear that you made it to your Mum’s house safely, Frances. I don’t like talking on the phone when I’m driving either. I didn’t know your Mum was in the hospital. Will she be getting out soon? Will Floss be going back home now that you’re there? Hope your Mum can make great strides and get better, if that is possible with whatever sickness she has. Praying for your Mum and all of you. Take good care, Frances and Floss.

I have my phone set to do Not Disturb When Driving. It’s Apple but I guess other operating systems do the same thing. Callers get a message that I’m driving and when I stop I get text messages to show me who has tried to get in touch.

I’ve never needed to be on the phone so badly whilst driving to risk 6 points and a £200 fine.

Hope things go well at your Mum’s. xx

Glad you made it safely, Frances. I don’t know if it applies to other phones, but my iPhone (8+) has an option to automatically text Do Not Disturb to callers. Go to Settings/Do Not Disturb/Auto Reply (right at bottom of options) which will text the message: “I’m driving with Do Not Disturb While Driving turned on. I’ll see your message when I arrive at my destination.”

For the benefit of those who, one day, may visit our little island, Just holding a mobile while driving is illegal in the UK, and the cops sometimes blitz an area to catch culprits. Proper hands-free is fine.

Best wishes to your mum, and thanks to Floss, as well as the rest of the family holding the fort in Shetland. You truly have a wonderful family.

Dear Little Teddy. So bewildering for him. Do hope your Mum is on the mend, she must be missing him so much. It’s our animals that keep us going.
