Worried About Haakon

Currently Haakon has colic.  The minute I saw him after lunch (when delivering hay), I knew something was wrong.  He was tucked up and miserable. Not eating.

The vet was called and, luckily was in the area doing visits, so came almost immediately.

The vet thoroughly examined Haakon, including a rectal, and said his bowel sounds were there but quiet. She also gave him an intra-venous anti-spasmodic and painkiller injections.  We were instructed to walk Haakon for five minutes every fifteen for two hours and then five minutes every thirty for two more hours and see.

So everything crossed please.  Prayers, thoughts, anything….. for Haakon.

Update: Floss and I are sharing the walking and he now seems a bit more settled and happier.  I hope it is the injections working, everything is sorting itself out and not masking things.

Monster sat on me!

When something happens in this house, no one will believe you unless there is photographic evidence.  Thems are the rules.

So, here goes – the other evening, Monster sat on me.  I was thrilled (that’s my thrilled face).

Monster, as a rule, only sits on my OH.  Everyone else doesn’t really exist in his mind.

OH was away for the night working on another island.  So, I was next best!  Yay for me.

Floss and I were watching our Chinese drama on the telly.  I could see Monster was interested too.

Quite interested – Zzzz……

This is my text conversation with Daisy….

There has to be photographic evidence or it didn’t happen.

Food!

Fivla and Vitamin have started their daily winter buckets now. Fivla gets less than Vitamin, but both have Turmeraid.

I put Vitamin in a separate little fenced off area so that Fivla can’t go marauding.

It just makes life much easier.

Today, I had Flossie on point.

And I also dished out a huge carrot to everyone else so they didn’t feel left out.

But the carrots quickly vanished and the begging began.

Albie – “Mum, give us food!”

Albie – “Please!”

Albie – “Pretty please!”

Albie – “Pretty please with my good little face!”

Silver:  “Food? Is there food?”

Albie – “And with my well-behaved extra smiles face!”

And Fivla kept on eating. She didn’t lift her head from her bucket until it was all gone.  Ditto Vitamin.

Silver tried his best.

Luckily a friend arrived with more carrots!  Huzzah!

Storm – “I am feeling a bit full now!”

Morning Chores

I woke up this morning to this…. I was quite surprised. I hadn’t been expecting snow, possibly because I hadn’t looked at the weather forecast recently. My weather addiction these past few weeks has been pushed to the limit looking at all the storms coming for us.

So I opened the bedroom window to see who/what was waiting for me.  Short wheel-base and orange? I think that’s Efstur.

Floss was in the kitchen cutting up carrots for everyone and we went outside to do our separate way. I make up haynets in the stable while Floss makes up the different buckets of hard feed. We are The Catering Department. She has her system. I have mine.

Floss kindly carries the haynets and I take the bucket.  I stand with Taktur while he eats his breakfast. Meanwhile Floss puts out four piles of hay somewhere where the wind won’t blow it away. She has various sheltered spots, depending on direction and strength.

While I stand with Taktur, who chews every mouthful 50 times, Floss takes her empty haynets, throws them into the stable, collects the other 4 buckets and the heavy haynet, lugging it over to Clothie (my croft across the hill) where the old men and the girls are.

Then when Taktur has finished his bucket, I take it to the stable and pick up the last haynet to carry over to Clothie to join Flossie.

She has already distributed the feed buckets according to who has what and her one haynet.  I throw her mine, grab the empty buckets and take them to the stream to wash, humming the theme from the Jungle Book – the song the girl sings at the end of the film.

Go back, clean buckets, vaccum puddles, make haynets for the sheep and then in for our breakfast!

Smiling Sheep

Here he is with his best Winning Smile……

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you……. Lambie!

Be still my beating heart.  So handsome.  Such magnificence and great teeth.

I would give him every biccie in the world when he gazes into my eyes but too many are bad for him.

And then No 2 in the Winning Smile Competition…… is Maggie. Such a sweetie. Always.  She comes running if I shout her name and is ever (and rightfully) hopeful.

How can I be sad, if I have such lovely smiles around me.
