PepperPot Update

Pepper is feeling much better again and thank you all for your kind words.  I am sure they helped her.

All four legs seem to work 100% and she is back to being very enthusiastic about food. She has this horrid habit of trawling the ground while she runs looking for anything edible, even if it isn’t.  Nothing stops her and then she is ill again.  She never learns.

This morning Pepper asked to go with me when I was taking the Eggbox (Jimny) out for a spin as it had had a flat battery through not being used very much.  I shoved her in the back and off we went to see a friend and her two Shetland Sheepdogs.

There was lots of running around.

Plus a bit of growling but no fights. The dogs were just establishing boundaries.

Well, Pepper mainly.  She was the only girl and she had to make her point of who was going to Rule the World.  Her, obviously. Them’s her rules.

I had a cup of coffee, a good chat and then Pepper and I went home only to find this…..

While I was having a rest on my bed, I heard weird heavy breathing.  When I looked over to Ted’s unmade bed, I saw Monster had secretly taken up residence, which made him the weirdo as that is only Ted’s bed.  No one else ever sleeps there.

Pepper arrived upstairs and could not believe her eyes either.

It was a very odd thing for Monster to do.  So not like him.  He has been a bit lame recently so I bought him a new bed, which has not got here yet.  I wonder if he will continue being strange once it arrives.

So How Old Is He?

When Daisy and I first met Monster in April 2018, we were told he was approximately 2 – 4 years old.  Our Shetland vet at the time and I disagreed with this estimate and thought he was more like 6 – 8 years old as Monster was one big confidant cat who did not look like he had just been around for a couple of years.

Meet n’ Greet – Day 1 at the SSPCA – on his throne

Does this look like a 2 year old cat to you?

First day at home

I don’t know. I suppose Monster could’ve been 2 – 4.  He had been a Tom cat (swiftly neutered by the SSPCA) and certainly built like one.

So that brings us swiftly to 2026.  By my calculations, we’ve had Monster for 8 years (of total joy, obviously) so at best he is 10 – 14 years old but these days we are all noticing that Monster is getting increasingly stiff when he gets up out of his many beds and I think he might be older than we were told – more like 16.

And I know there are supplements like Yumove for cats but they are all fish-based and he absolutely loathes all fish so I am not sure what the answer is.

Busy Doing Nothing

Another lovely day and, by choice, I have done nothing much because I just don’t feel like it.  I took no photos, didn’t go for a walk, or do anything.  Floss, on the other paw, has run around all day and even cooked supper too.

Last night I almost saw the Northern Lights.

This photo was taken by precariously holding my phone from the bathroom window. They never really got going, or if they did, I wasn’t aware of it.

So it is a boring blog because I wanted a day off from all my days off of total inactivity.  I felt lazy today. A chocolate-eating day, if you will and yes, I did share my chocolate with Flossie while she whisked past with the hoover.

All Ready

I like to be organised and I will admit that I also like writing lists. So this morning was spent packing my bag for hospital tomorrow where I will get my caudal steroid injections as a day case. I am wearing my favourite (and very worn out with holes) shirt.

Though, I also have an overnight bag ready just in case because you never know and I don’t want OH to have to drive all the way back for it.  Best case scenario, I will bring it home and unpack everything unused.

Sadly, there is no room in my bag(s) for this small doglet and I know she would be perfect for keeping my feet on the ground as I am totally over-thinking this whole hospital procedure to the point of feeling like being sick with fear.  The last time was horrendous while they scraped me off the theatre ceiling.  So things have to be bad if I’ve asked to have this procedure again.

I am telling myself I will just have to think of my happy place, man up and do my best, insisting on a huge amount of sedation (I want to be knocked out), as promised when I went to discuss this with the anaesthetist at my last appointment.

(and, yes, I am in a terrible dither)

My sheep supplies are increasing now.  I made this little chap today.

And then I made this one too, staying a little longer in my shed as it may be a few days before I get back in again.

Floss sent me this photo from this morning.  I want to be like Monster. His ability to sleep absolutely anywhere is a talent and one I could do with.

Wish me luck. Think of me tomorrow.

A Weird Day

Today started strangely with a duck first thing on my porch roof.  I’ve never seen one there before.  Pretty but not the usual occurrence.

I don’t know if he flew there by accident or on purpose, though he is definitely one of mine.

Then a potential album cover.  My band will obviously be called “The Black Sheep”.

Flossie and I had set this morning aside for the farrier and I managed to get all the sheep into their day-time field, all except Lambie who was busy finding himself somewhere else (he went out later to join the others or wander about unloved by himself).

Stephen got to work trimming those that needed it, along with his BFF, Pepper who of course “helped”.

She even did a spot of “riding” too, although she is not nearly as proficient as my previous Patterdale terrier, BeAnne, who could actually sit to walk, trot and even a little canter.

Kolka had her feet done….

As did Iacs and I was just beginning to think this was going to be an expensive morning if everyone needed a trim….

But luck would have it, it was just Albie in the other field, out of five, and we were finished.  Everyone was looked at and deemed to be fine.  No laminitis or anything, so I am hugely relieved as this time of year is when things start going wrong.

Lunch and into my shed to make a sheep.

I heard yowling.

I let in the yowling, gave him a bed, told him to shut up and to stop prodding me with his claws.  I had work to do.

(the black marks on Monster’s head and tips of ears are car/van oil.  I think he has been busy cutting brakes – I told you this was a weird sort of day)

Anyway, today’s creation.
