British Championships – Part the First

Firstly, I am sorry for the small pissy little blogs while I have been away.  Personally, I blame the shitty expensive internet from Travelodge and also total exhaustion from me.  After a day of driving and being a supportive parent, I don’t actually have the energy to write a blog.

Anywho, we are all finally home from the Icelandic Horse Society of Great Britain (IHSGB) Summer Show and British Championships 2017.

Spalding is a very long way – it took us 12 hours to get from Aberdeen to Lincolnshire.

Ok, it was a very long haul but totally worth it – we met many nice people and their horses and it was also a great weekend.

The boys were brilliant – Waffle was perfect and Kappi did his very best.  Travel takes so much out of them

We took Waffle to the showground the first day but soon realised that he was perfectly happy at the livery yard so, from then on, left him there as he was much happier.

On our first day, Daisy rode Kappi in the afternoon on the oval track to practice and to get him used to the set-up.

Then, on the Saturday, Daisy got ready for her first competition.

It was a tölt class.

Kappi struggled as he had not had enough rest so they did not achieve the best result.

But, that is what we learned.  All that travel needs at least two days for Kappi to recover. He had been standing in the box for a long time, despite frequent rests en route.

The boys did not stay on the showground and I had arrange for them to stay at a wonderful livery yard – about 5 miles down the road from the showground.  Waffle made many friends and Kappi had a chance to walk and relax.

More tomorrow…..

Going Home

We are on the boat after a long and successful trip. Yes, one red rosette and we are very proud of Daisy and Kappi. Waffle was also an exemplary Shetland pony who made many friends.

We are on the boat now. My feet are vibrating from the driving. We left Spalding at 05:00!

Gin and tonics all round. More tomorrow. Night, night xx

Alive and well

We reached our destination exhausted after 12 hours driving.  I swear Google maps just added on more and more time and miles as went along, having originally said 8 hours.

Waffle and Kappi travelled so well. I love those dudes.  They took it all in their strides and have been perfect.

They are living in a fantastic livery yard a few miles away from the showground.

We are staying above a retail outlet so this morning was spent shopping.  In the afternoon, we took Kappi to the oval track for a practice.  Waffle ate grass in a supportive way.

No photos as we have very limited wifi but once home, then obviously I will inundate.

So fingers and toes crossed for Daisy and Kappi tomorrow.

On the Boat South Again!

Well, here we are on the boat going south with Kappi, Wafffle, Daisy and Bjørn (not necessarily in that order) for the British Championships.

During my absence, Daisy has been working on her lists of everything we need to take with us.

She packed the van up gradually.

We had to evict a small stowaway. My heart bled. I so wanted to take her but she hates travelling and there are no dogs allowed on the showground.

First, the traditional stop off en route for supplies.

Then onto the boat.

Waffle and Kappi are very happy in their quarters and they will be checked regularly.

WIsh us all luck.

The Foals have Grown

I am home and yes, it is wonderful (if brief).

(Tomorrow we are on the boat to go to the 2017 Summer Festival and British Championships in Spalding)

So, anywho, today, I spent the day with my horses and ponies.

The foals are growing “like Topsy” and looking wonderful.  Powerful little peoples.

Both foals are very independent, sleeping away from each other, not even near their Mums.

(there is a stream between them).

I can already see them developing and changing.  I love this stage in their brand new lives.

To start with, they sort of get on and talk to each other, which is wonderful, though Dreki has evil thoughts and Lilja is a perfect little girl.

Dreki just has to annoy at all times.  He must.

But the half-siblings do manage to skip around together in the field, which shows a bond of some sort.

Dreki can be forgiven for his midge-like behaviour as he is very handsome.

And Lilja is precious heaven.  She still hasn’t grown into her ears yet!

(It is wonderful being home) xx
