More Beds

And we return to the Bed Saga…..

Now this ancient bed has been greatly improved, according to Monster, by the self-heating mat.  He loves that and spends many hours inside snoring.

The replacement bed for the tiny furry bed that Monster couldn’t actually fit in, has now arrived.  It’s not very big either (the words “total crap” spring to mind if I am being perfectly honest but I can’t be arsed to send it back again).

And no one is particularly keen to go near this new bed so I am trying to show everyone how to use it properly, other wise they just sit on top, crushing the neat little roof that won’t stay up on its own (I told you it’s crap).

Anyway, I arranged Pepper in it and she looked thoughtful about the bed’s possibilities.  She does like a cave and has been known to squish herself into Monster’s original Fortress of Solitude but it is a tight squeeze and she only does it to annoy him.

I told Pepper that she liked this sort of bed.  We will see, was her reply.

And I am now officially giving up on this new dog-bed scene, unless someone can recommend a lovely large dog cave that has a roof which stays up on its own, like a large cat cave, but a cheap one. How difficult can that be?

Asking for a friend…… (please ignore my rubbish).

Hi Frances, when you search for a cave-like bed for a slightly larger dog, search for a “dog tent”. There are some very adorable ones and you can then just put the bed inside the tent. Dogs adore these!

Same problem when looking after whippet-types who feel the cold. In the end I went for a series of fabric crates (link below), door never zipped shut, with a heat pad, fleecy blanket, plus another fleece over the top of the whole thing as insulation. That combination was extremely successful

https://shorturl.at/69ben – ignore the mesh sides, they have ‘solid’ sides as well and check the sizes carefully, there are many permutations.

Seeing the Cat/Dog Bed Interior Park had me cracking up because there is the across the pond version of that grouping at our place. And looking for any well made pet bed that is truly the right size, the right, materials, the right cushioning, & is exactly like its online picture is like pursuing the Holy Grail; I can see Indiana Jones on the hunt. The two ‘caves’ we have turned into quilted day beds because the tops would not stay up, but I will credit the troops here in using all manner of places to lounge & leaving no bit of cushioning ignored. As a ‘grass is always greener’ thought, I always envision that these items that do not thrill are what we get for being such an entrenched capitalistic haven, but the lucky people in Europe & the rest of the world get well made, lasting objects. Misery does not love company in this case, I just understand Monster’s problem & I’m disgusted that it seems nowhere on planet earth can we get decent, well made beds for our furry family members.

I gave up with one cat we had who ignored several beds preferring to lie on and squash the roof of any ‘igloo’ .
Found a large cardboard box, cut a hole half way up one of the sides (no draughts) taped up all the open ends, stuffed it with fluffy blankets plus one of those self heating pads. Then draped a large blanket over it leaving the opening visible.
He spent every waking hour sleeping in there defending it quite strongly if anyone else wanted in if and if he did sit on top it was strong enough to not collapse.
Not everyone’s cup of tea but worked for him
