A New Home

Hmmm…… Brá and Hetja – what to do?

After giving us some beautiful offspring over the years, I have been struggling over the decision for the ladies’ future.

I am already pushed for time between managing the horses at Thordale along with the Minions. Daisy is also busy with her horses and all the youngsters in training. Add some sheep and my day is full.

This winter, we moved the ladies to one of our nearer-to-home fields and my neighbour fell in love with them and spent time bonding with them.

Brá has never been simple so this is a huge achievement in its own right.  She doesn’t “bond” or even talk to just anyone!

And to be honest, both of us are just not “mare people” (a controversial topic, I know, but we do love our boys).

Nevertheless, we had some strict requirements for their future welfare. Our first consideration was that they would go to a home that would never breed from them again.

The second was that they would go somewhere where they wouldn’t be too badly affected by sweet itch (and would be treated correctly, if necessary).

And thirdly, the most important requirement, was that they’d go to someone who would love them and dedicate more time to them, which they definitely deserve.

Brá and Hetja still have so much to give to someone who is willing to put the effort in and we are definitely  grateful for the years that we had with them.

So now they have a wonderful new home and this is the best I could wish for them.

Happy Muzzah’s Day

To all the Muzzahs of woolly, fur, feathered children who love you more than words.

(even if they don’t always appear as grateful as they should be…..)

🐶 🐑 ❤️ Happy Muzzah’s Day to you! ❤️ 🐑 🐶

And always rescue.  Never say never.  Just whatever it takes.

Farrier Yesterday

I am just trying to catch up with myself today.

Yesterday was busy. I am not used to anything actually happening these days which is how I like my life.

Our Farrier, Stephen, visited and worked his usual magic.

Of course, BeAnne was on a Mission.

…. To die crushed under hoof is her dream but definitely not mine.  It terrifies me how she wanders aimlessly through legs oblivious of the danger.

I couldn’t bear it anymore so she was sent to her bed and there she stayed ….  sulking.

Taktur was hot-shod and next it was Klængur’s turn. He has suffered a nasty “brushing” injury, possibly when he decided to do flying pace the other day.  Indeed he flew and it was incredible – such speed – but the result was a very nasty gash on the inside of his coronet band.  It is clean and please-God uninfected.  Stephen removed Klængur’s shoes and that’s him until Stephen’s next visit. Time to heal.

The others waited patiently in the stable, happily stuffing their faces and talking to their friends.

Then it was Kappi’s turn for a full set of shoes.  Daisy also brought Efstur in to watch.

Good old Kappi – the perfect teacher.

Lastly Efstur who had his old shoes removed and a new set put on.  Hot shod again.  He was perfect.  With Daisy at the helm, shovelling a little carrot in when required, Efstur took it all his stride.  No pulling back, no snorting, no nothing.  Just got on with it like an old pro.

Everyone who needed Stephen saw him and while the list seemed endless, it was necessary.  I hope we didn’t disgrace ourselves and I pray Klængur ‘s hoof heals.  These things happen.   We will keep a close eye on the wound.

Very Brave or Very Stupid

Storm ……

Well, he’s either very brave or very stupid.

If I am honest, I would say he is stupid.

Today was Farrier Day so we were in a rush, trying to get our work completed as efficiently and quickly as possible

Floss and I were feeding those who get fed – Fivla, Vitamin, Lilja and Sóley.  I was in charge of Vitamin and Fivla.

As it was blowing a hooley, we chose sheltered spots for their buckets.   Vitamin insisted on standing with her back legs up a steep hill. She wouldn’t move.

But Fivla and Vitamin are experts when it comes to buckets.  They don’t come up for air until their bucket is empty and clean.

And all I will say is God help anyone who gets in their way or tries to steal their bucket!  You can expect both barrels from the ladies.

Storm would not be told.  I was concerned that Vitamin would pile in and sort him out but luckily she just kept eating.  She does not take kindly to this kind of behaviour.  I can’t say I  blame her.

Storm was enough to the try the patience of a Saint.   Today Vitamin was that Saint.

And he was an unrepentant sinner.

Not even slightly sorry.

You can tell these two are related! They think the same thoughts.

Tiddles was a sweetheart so I gave him a secret carrot and told him to tell no one.  He munched silently.

Meanwhile Floss was hard at work keeping the peace with the big ones. Their buckets were blowing around because they have a more airy-fairy approach to food.  I think Silver was also being unhelpful too.

Out of everyone, only Albie and Waffle were today’s paragons of virtue.

We are all recovering now from a busy day.

Slow and Steady….

Well, you know the saying “Slow and Steady wins the race” – that is exactly how Daisy and Efstur are working together.

Lots of long reins and stretching under saddle.

Ears pricked, no stress and happy thoughts….

Efstur offers an outline without being nagged.  He is such a sweetie.

And off they go on the other rein.

Lots of “what a good lad” – they make a lovely couple! ❤️

In the school, there is less tölt but Daisy is not concerned – it is very evident outside and Efstur is happy and relaxed indoors.  He is listening and learning.

Anywho, Efstur continues to amaze, so all is good.  It is early days and there is plenty of potential from the both of them.  Watching them together is a total joy.
