Uber Cute Newt

I looked out of my back door to see Newt was having a little bit of a sit in the Shetland so-called Spring sunshine. It is not warm, I can tell you.  Ice and frozen on the ground where the sun isn’t shining.

Not-so-little Albie was nearby happily hoovering the silage around his friend.

The Littlest Newt was sitting very comfortably in his own pile of dried silage.  It turns into a hay bedding.

ZZzzzz-ing and snoring to himself.

Newt looks like a small buffalo.

Very cute to look at.

But Newt is not very huggable.

He is rather an aloof little chap who looks delicious but is actually the scheming brains and boss of this odd couple.

Albie does everything Newt tells him.

Newt is still planning his world domination.

Hold that thought because there is silage to be finished first!

I’m completely besotted with these two. They are utterly gorgeous! Thank you for these photographs, Frances.

What is it about the smallest usually being the boss???? In our dog family, the littlest of the two who is outweighed by the larger (and kinder one) by slightly over 20 pounds thinks he’s the boss too. Sometimes he actually growls at the bigger boy when getting on our bed. Chandler thinks he rules the world (which he doesn’t).

Many, many years ago, we had a toy poodle. When he was about 12 or 13 (he actually lived to 17), we decided to have an overlap and adopted a rescue dog – female, about five years old according to the vet’s receipts that came with her. She was a bit of labrador, collie and, no doubt others, but a lovely friendly dog with a great temperament. The two got on well, but the bigger dog always deferred to the poodle. Every so often, he would go and sit in her bed, just looking at her. She never challenged him in any way but just sat patiently until he came out, presumably happy he had reinforced his dominance.

Back story was that the female had belonged to a forces’ family who were being posted abroad and could not take her along. They had handed her over to the RSPCA on condition she was rehomed and not put down. We were told she had been waiting over six months for a new family to find her.

I think “the best defense is an offense” describes this partnership. When I walk our (large) dog, it’s always the smaller dogs we pass that are the most vocal and ready for “battle.”

Newt’s Book of Revenge will be a best seller. And Albie as his talking partner, sales should be high. Glad Albie has a buddy even if that buddy is plotting world domination.
