Move!

Yesterday I said I would try and take more photos with my big camera, but this time of year it is very much weather-permitting.

However, today was a nice day and took my big camera out.  I wanted to take photos of the Shetland ponies running around.  They sometimes like to have a mad half hour in the mornings and it is very sweet to watch.  Lots of bucking and farting.

I found everyone huddled in one corner.

When I mentioned the possibility of running around and looking wonderful, I was met with glazed expressions all round.

“You want me to do what?”

“Move?  I think not”.

“Not for nobody”

So not feeling very encouraged, I made chivvying noises of encouragement and Silver helpfully took off.

Swiftly followed by Newt (like a baked bean shot out of a cannon!)

And then they ran back to their friends.  Sigh.

More “move it” noises and off Silver and Newt went again…..

And Newt, suddenly realising he was leaving his friends behind, did “a dirty stop”, the sort of thing that if you sat onboard, would have resulted in you going straight over his head to land in the mud!

More “come on, guys, move!” from me.

And they eventually shuffled off with absolutely no enthusiasm, though Silver and Newt were slightly better.

Newt managed to have a nice little roll, probably in something unmentionable if he could.

I am sure he is a closet capybara.

But at least he is a moving capybara.

Seriously, guys. Come on!

Oh, at last!  I was beginning they were glued to the spot.

A Change of Scenery

I had a change of scenery today.  No going through photos and making sheep for me.

Obviously, I had to do all my morning chores first.

But, as I had lots to do, I decided to go without breakfast and drove off.  I also didn’t take Pepper. Too much like hard work.

But I did remember my shopping list – ✅ (as well as photographing it in case I lost the original!)

And off I went to Lerwick to meet up with a friend who was having her car windscreen sorted.

We did some Christmas shopping – I know, I know, I am very early but I like to work like this, chipping away in little bits rather than one huge shock to the system.

I can’t say I was in a very festive mood and the shop windows were still in autumn bonfire/Halloween mood.  Great knitted pumpkins, though.

More of my felted sheep were needed at Jamieson’s, so I dropped off a bag and rearranged their field as well.  Apparently there’s a cruise ship in tomorrow so hopefully some of these little chaps will find new homes.

And then my friend and I went to Pete’s Café for lunch.  Yum. It was very good and very welcome. I was hungry by then (no breakfast, remember).

I managed to do all my messages and even bought a few stocking fillers and one Christmas present.

Suddenly a switch flipped in my head and I realised I was suddenly fed up with “city life”, and wanted to get home.

I drove home to take up my usual late afternoon chores – poo pick, hens and ducks to bed, sheep coming home.

I love the thought of going to town and then suddenly I don’t and I want to be at home.

This Lot

Honestly, this lot……. they have mooched around in their containers all day refusing to go outside, enjoy the relative calm before the storm (which arrives Friday) or even enjoy the rare sunshine.

Nope, they mooched instead trying to catch my eye every time I walked past.

So, after talking it over with my experts (Monika from Sandness Equine Services and Daisy), we decided that the ponies could now have access to their winter track. I know I said I wanted to wait until the temperature was in single figures but I gave in because their track is getting very muddy and they don’t want to be there.

I opened the gate. Tiddles went straight in, walking over the newly cleared and hopefully now packed down mud-free (yer, right!) gateway.

The rest followed, eventually.

Well, nobody needed asking twice and started to stuff their faces immediately.

I hope I have done the right thing and I tell myself the ponies won’t get laminitis here and hopefully the change of scenery will cheer them up and they will not get colic.  That will be the next thing. I don’t like ponies mooching and not eating.  So, yes, I caved and gave them their winter track.

I am hopeless but always with lots of excuses.
