Fivla and Vitamin are struggling to eat the soaked hay. I think it is because it is a from a big round bale – the stalks are longer so not easy.
Well, this is my theory.
So first thing, I dashed off to Lerwick in my horsevan to buy some square bales, which is much more varied in type.
And, yes, I went around the Feed Merchant’s shed inspecting all his hay to find one that might suit Vitamin and Fivla. I even sniffed it because I find that’s a useful method of analysis. Feeling hopeful, I parted with a kidney and bought four bales of one type and two of another.
Then a quick nip to my sheeple field at Jamieson’s shop on the street to restock as it is Wool Week and the field was looking a bit bleak.
A few more messages to do and then home, sweet home and a perfect cup of tea.
The afternoon was spent making two more sheeple while the dogs, who were very pleased I was home, slept….

So that was my day. It’s not over yet.
Supper, more hay distributed to the needy, plus two more buckets (F&V) and put to bed and then I make another sheeple. I might add that the old ladies were absolutely fine about me driving the van in and out of their “bedroom”. They didn’t bat an eye.
But they hate the new hay. FFS! I give up.
Perhaps sharing your perfect cup of tea with F&V would ease their mind??????
Your tea is just how I like it; very fresh, no milk and not too strong (and for me – no sugar).
Been there Francis. Sniffing all the bales in the barn with a farmer staring in amazement. Colour has to be right, greenish tinge and smelling sweet or as the farmers wife says, smelling of Summer. Taking it proudly to his lordship who sniffs it, then walks away saying “ I don’t like that “. Tough ! Don’t worry in the morning it will be gone……
If you ever figure out what constitutes ‘good’ hay in a horse’s mind please let me know. I have more than half of a 400# bale that no one likes, even my goat and kune kune pig!

Oh man, so sorry they didn’t like the hay. So frustrating.
I spied venus fly traps in your window. I think those are native to my neck of the woods in eastern North Carolina! Wishing you the best with your hay search – my horse is exceptionally picky – but hay stolen from the wheelbarrow always seems to be the best. ♀️
Ah yes, the hay they didn’t want so I moved it away and almost out of their range and then it was all they wanted!
And yes, again, my beloved Venus flytraps. They are producing flowers and I suppose seeds, so I might try growing them on. I could possibly then take over the world with my fly eating army of plants!
