An Indoor Day

♬ “Oh, the weather outside is frightful”♬ – gale force wind with, what feels like, buckets of rain or hail being thrown at us.

So we went indoors.

BeAnne was in one of her moods.

BN2A0546

The one where she feels that everyone hates her.

BN2A0545

She does do resentment very well.

BN2A0629

We tried to coax her out of it.  But no, she was having none of it.

BN2A0489

So we gave up and left BeAnne to her sulk.

BN2A0705

Meanwhile, Daisy went to fetch Kappi, leaving Taktur to eat his Handsome Prince food uninterrupted.

Kappi has not been ridden since Summer, when Daisy went away to work in Norway.

BN2A0606

She said he was on the fat and unfit side but still the same horse.  She even found his trot which has been missing for a while.  Icelandic gaits come and go like the wind.  Sometimes there is no obvious reason – a frustrating mystery that happens.

BN2A0696

Next, Daisy tried out Esja. Bjørn, her trainer (both Esja’s and Daisy’s) had asked her ride Esja as he is very busy with the lead-up to Christmas.

BN2A0721

So Daisy exercised Esja and said she was very similar to the youngsters she trains.  Happy little Esja was thrilled to be doing something and had her ears pricked forwards all the time.

BN2A0808

Next it was Floss’ turn.  She had her daily lesson on Haakon.

BN2A0892 BN2A0896

I went and mucked out The Grandes Dames’ Boudoir, trying hard not to be the interfering mother.  When I returned to the school, Daisy had Flossie tölting round and round in circles, concentrating on bending in the right direction (I think).  Floss looked very good and has come a long way in a very short amount of time.

BN2A0919 BN2A0934

It is lovely seeing Floss and Daisy using the indoor school and enjoying the horses together – makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!

An Amazing Day

Daisy is home for two weeks from her job in Norway – she backs and trains young horses.

The first thing Daisy wanted to do was to ride her Icelandic horse, Iacs.  She has had Iacs since she was 10 years old and they are a very happy together.  Daisy has never wanted to sell Iacs but enjoys riding him when she is home.

BN2A0209

Iacs may be a fat little hairy boy and Daisy may ride million dollar horses now, but iacs is still her Iacs and nothing will ever change that.  They have been friends forever.

BN2A0216 BN2A0233 BN2A0239

I love Daisy’s face in the photo below – that is the face of true happiness as they disunitedly canter around the school together. Who cares if it is not right or pretty?  Daisy is happy and they are having fun.  Sometimes perfection is not that its cracked up to be.

BN2A0246

Still, Daisy had Iacs going very well and he was a happy boy.

BN2A0277

There was even a smidgeon of tölt, which Iacs is not renowned for. Daisy asked him very kindly and Iacs duly tried his best for her.

BN2A0281

And then my dreams came true.  I never nagged – I might’ve suggested, though……

Daisy gave Flossie, her younger sister, a riding lesson on Haakon.

BN2A0369

It was lovely to watch and Daisy was a very good teacher.

BN2A0492

She showed Flossie what she was aiming for and Flossie tried her hardest to achieve.

BN2A0495

And achieve they did.

BN2A0520

What a wonderful day.  I honestly don’t care what the weather does, just seeing my two daughters and their respective horses listening and learning from each other, is a wonderful sight.

BN2A0536

I could not be happier.

Thordale Christmas Card 2015

This is the Official 2015 Thordale Christmas card.  I hope you like it.

BN2A0156

And here is the immense preparation that went into making it……

Last night was spent making a headcollar/bridle for Lambie.  Yes, I even did sewing and if you know me, I do not sew.   But for Lambie and for you, I did.

BN2A0104

The headcollar fell off immediately so we got rid of that.

BN2A0101

My rider, who was purchased specifically for this Christmas card, was not brilliant at staying on upright either (we all have that problem at times).

BN2A0127

We battled with the rider trying to get it right, using a chopstick up her back, then a right angle shelf bracket, but settling on a coathanger in the end.

BN2A0130

Flossie said she had riding lessons like this so why was this not acceptable?  I didn’t know what to say!

BN2A0132

Then Lambie pulled a face.  Even as a top super-model, he has his moments.

BN2A0133

But we managed.  Here are a few shots that didn’t quite make the grade.

BN2A0160 BN2A0177

(action shot)

BN2A0201

Dear Lambie – he is game for anything, for all my mad ideas without any fuss.  I see a modelling career ahead for him.

Lambert – Where are you?

So where is Lambert, some of you have asked?

BN2A7348

He has been noticeable by his absence.

BN2A7364

The truth is that after Lambster appeared, it became very apparent that Lambert was not happy.  He didn’t want to share either me or Lambie with anyone else.  Lambie, of course, was completely oblivious to the internal politics.

BN2A7383

There was constant friction and it never really got better or went away.

BN2A7413

The hill sheep regularly went past our gate, as we live on a corridor to the scattald or open hill.

BN2A7357

I was used to Lambie and Lambert joining them, if I left the gate open, but they would never leave to go with them forever. I could always call them home.

Then one day Lambert didn’t come home.

BN2A8607

My OH would see him on the hill, and call him, even getting him to follow once, but mostly Lambert would look up, acknowledge him and then go back to eating.

BN2A8608

On two occasions Lambie and Lambster went into the hill and didn’t return.  Floss and I, after a long trek, found them and they happily came home, even bringing Lambert with them once and I thought all was well and Lambert would now stay at home.

BN2A7352

He was nicer to Lambster but no, it was not to be.  The first opportunity and he was gone again.

BN2A7434

I have seen Lambert a few times since and he lifts his head when I call him but won’t come home.  He has a new flock now.  As I am allowed sheep on the hill, I am not too worried about him.  He is castrated (I made sure of that) and he is happy with his new friends.  He has a good fleece and is healthy so he will be fine and if he wants to come home, the gate is always open.

BN2A8609

I would love to say that Lambie is devastated but he is a fickle Lambie!

🚂 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌 🚌

If you go to Zazzle.com and look under Shetland ponies, you might find a wonderful Shetland pony postage stamp, a laptop cover and a burp cloth.

I can’t get into Zazzle.com or Zazzle.co.uk for some reason.  Perhaps it is because they don’t want ponies on burp cloths!

Gah!  Zazzle drives me mad.

Mud Everywhere

There is mud in the fields and it is getting very depressing.  Everyone is filthy.  I don’ t bother brushing or cleaning (not that I did much when there was no mud to be perfectly honest), because there really is no point.

BN2A0051

Obviously the field is huge and there is grass and dry standing all over the place but, of course, some little guttersnipes just want to wallow like young hippos.

BN2A0052

Glorious mud, eh?

BN2A0055

Nose kisseys can get a bit grubby but everyone would hate me more if I bathed them and there really is absolutely no point.  It would be cruel on all of us.

BN2A0053

No matter how much I want to have clean horses!

BN2A0057

Some are worse than others.  Some look for mud to roll in.

BN2A0065BN2A0067

And some try their best to maintain a ladylike exterior.

BN2A0066

And some like to grub about together.

BN2A0074

Being with everyone is doing Hjalti the power of good.  He is such a chilled relaxed little boy now and his Hetja is happy to let him go off with his friends.  I am so glad they are home.

BN2A0079

Meanwhile, The Boysenberries maintain a fairly clean exterior.

BN2A0085

They are in a separate little old garden by the house, eating it down for the first time in years.

BN2A0086

Hasn’t Lambie got the most beautiful eyes?  Liquid gold.

BN2A0090

You would buy a used car off Lambie. This is his truthful and honest face!
