Change of Scenery

I flew into Heathrow Airport yesterday evening after my ears nearly burst.  I don’t think I have ever known such excruciating earache as the plane landed.  I could’ve cried.

This morning my mother and I were up early to walk Teddy, Mum’s little dog, on the surrounding golf course before the golfers all appeared.  It can be a bit of a race against time as it does get busy.  I think it is only on Christmas Day when there is no one around.

It was very beautiful, if cold.

Autumn is most definitely here.  The colours of the trees are beautiful – something we don’t have in Shetland.

I like seeing the garden in the different seasons.

Autumn is my favourite month wherever I am.   We have a busy day tomorrow taking Mum to hospital for her surgery so I cannot guarantee a blog tomorrow.

Frances: hope all goes well with the surgery.
I have had to fly with congestion (sinus infection or cold) and I found that a soft pair of ear plugs helped.
I barely put them in before takeoff. I could adjust them when cabin pressure changed and I could still hear all the racket going on around me. Then helped alleviate the sudden changes in pressure. Just don’t shove them in tight, and have a few extras around in case you drop one. Its tiring to keep your fingers in your ears for the entire flight.

Sorry about the earache – that pain is miserable. Love that picture of the garden bench!
Best of luck to Mum tomorrow. Good to see Teddy again.

Oh Frances, I was concerned that your sinusitis was going to be a problem with flying. I’m sorry to hear that it did, and hope you’re feeling better.

    P.S. Stunning photographs!

Hope all goes well for your mum. At least now a days cataract surgery is pretty streamline. Just remind her not to bend over (drop her head forward) when getting off the Loo (sp?) 😉
Also the ear plugs are a great idea. We tell folks not to fly when they have a sinus infection as it can drive bacteria into the middle ear. BUT sometimes it can’t be helped. A gal has gotta do what a gal has gotta do.
So much for all my cheery news. I will jeep you both in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh no! I hope you feel better now that you are off the plane!
Bring some gum with you if you can and start chewing before takeoff and before landing.
The chewing motion helps relieve the pressure.

I hope all goes well with your Mom’s surgery!
