A Little Known Fact

Now here’s a little known fact for you……

If you open up the little shed in the paddock leading to the big hill field, it fits five Shetland ponies perfectly adequately.

I did not know that and now I do.

The shed wasn’t particularly a squeeze for the ponies and they all looked pretty comfortable and relieved to be out of the driving sleet/slushy rain.  I don’t think there were any fights either because, as a herd, they don’t get truly narky with each other.

Anyway, I think they were all very grateful judging by the mess they left behind them.  We mucked out once they had left.

And I did see a locum GP who allayed my fears of cauda equina and said it was probably “just nerve damage” so that was good. He also advised me of the serious symptoms and I told him I had a bag packed, just in case. So I am relieved.  I wish he could’ve referred me for an MRI scan (apparently beyond his remit) but he referred me back to the Orthopods instead, who hopefully will do this, though last time my appointment was cancelled and I was referred to the physio dept who phoned and asked if I had tried Mindfulness.  For once, I had no words.

Your reaction made me laugh”mindfulness”! I would love to see these people change places with you for a week, pain wise. I am totally sick of hearing about cognitive behavioural therapy. Nerve pain can drive you mad when it’s at full pelt. The cold weather isn’t helping either. You have my every sympathy, just do what you can and take a rest when you can. I am thinking of you and hope you get some relief soon.

Hmm, well, that’s good news and bad news isn’t it. Nerve damage is no joke either. And it’s STILL raining?!? Those ponies looked awfully wet. Still hoping you can get good treatment sooner rather than later. Make sure you have an adequate supply of chocolate.

Oh, gosh, ‘MINDFULNESS!’ The new craze. I really would like to know how I ‘mindfully’ get rid of crushed vertebrae/nerve pain. Please tell us all if you find out. The other popular method over here is CRT which boils down to ‘reframing’ our response to the pain: ‘Reframe the pain from a negative to a positive experience.’ My response to that is my ‘positive experience’ is that the pain confirms that I am alive, but I still have the wretched pain. End of story.

On a much brighter note: the little ponies look snug & cute together in their little shed & ,yes, I bet it was a bit of a job mucking it out. I bet they were so happy to have a place to go in such weather.

I imagine, had you been in the physio people’s presence, you would have been tempted to ‘mindful’ them upside the head!
