Winter Fields

The three big fields that I usually use for the Minions were not used this year because the grass was too lush and green. Last year, both Tiddles and Waffle had laminitis.  So I left the grass to grow all summer with the plan that it would be cut for silage.  Sadly, it was declared “too ditchy” and no one would cut it.  I was very disappointed.  No winter feed for this year and lots of grass I couldn’t use.

In the end a flock of 300 sheep came to stay for 2 weeks and ate it right down.  Perfect.

Yesterday I showed Daisy the end result and we decided that the Minions could now go in.

This morning we moved them all. Happy days and happy ponies.

Once they were all back together (it took three trips), everyone cantered around.

The Minions love these fields.

Waffle and Vitamin set off.

…. joined by a speedy Albie.

I love watching them run.  I have given them all three fields.

There is a lovely stream that runs through so no lugging water for me.

Yay!

They will stay there for as long as the grass lasts.

If there is a fierce storm on the horizon, I will take Vitamin home along with one other.

And Vitamin will continue to get her daily bucket.

Hopefully, the grass is not green enough now to give anyone any problems.  Lots of space for running around too.

I hate keeping the ponies in small fields and they hate it too.

So this is the plan for the next few months.

Phew! Sorted.

A Girl and Her Cat!

This morning saw me in my shed trying to make a sheep.  We have a full social diary at the moment so I am grabbing felting moments when I can. Everyone was with me.

Felting a sheep was not an easy task and no, I didn’t stab Monster –  I just worked around him…. carefully.

Sheeple all finished and time for a dog walk.

It was a case of me, two dogs, one daughter with one whingeing white cat.  We all went.

Monster had his Instagram moments.

And, obviously, terms were negotiated.

While Daisy happily did the camera-work.

There were action shots…..

And some superior posing.

And then there was the totally inert shot!

It was nice to have one girl and her cat.

Hunter-Gatherer

Daisy:  Mum, has Pepper got something?
Me:  No, I don’t think so. I can’t see anything….. oh dear God, please no.
Pepper: I have a new little friend and he is mine and I luffs him!

Ted: I’m looking good now, aren’t I?  Possibly your most favourite dog of all time!

Me:  Pepper, I am going to have to take this “new friend” away.  He cannot stay.
Pepper:  If you take him away, I will never speak to you again!
Daisy took Mr Mousie away. RIP Mr Mousie.  I am so very sorry.

Honestly, I don’t know where Pepper found him but find him she did. I can only think Monster knows something of this, not that he bothers much with small-fry.

You can’t be squeamish in our house.

So here are the Minions bouncing.  Enjoy!

There and Here

Lots to do today so I was out early feeding the sheeps, the ponies, the horses, the ducks, the chickens and ……. Daisy is home for a holiday this week.  I am very happy.

Once everyone was fed and in their proper field, Daisy and I went to Lerwick for the day.  I needed to top up the Sheeple field and we shopped.

We also saw Puzzzh (may he Rest in Peace) in a shop window, which was a lovely surprise.

Tommy was in Boots, the Chemist, so we had a little chat with him.  I haven’t seen him for a while but I haven’t been to town either.

Tommy is a cat who lives in Lerwick. He likes to wander in and out of the shops.  As a celebrity, he even has his own Instagram page and, one year, a calendar.

Meanwhile at home we had to change Pepper’s collar for a smaller one as she couldn’t actually walk in it.  This has done the trick.  Pepper hasn’t touched her stitches once and gallops around the house like a demented angle-poise lamp!  She is much happier too.  So all is good. A lovely day.

Please Identify!

Apologies for the worst photos in the world – I only had my camera phone to hand at the time.

Anywho, I was driving back home from the vet with Little Miss Pepperpot who was now sporting a cone-of-shame.  Even though the wound is healing nicely, she just needs this addition to her recuperation for total perfection.

So, there I was driving back in the rain, Pepper in her cage sulking, when I saw this massive bird with a flock of corvids. They were eating a roadkill rabbit and flew off the minute my car approached.

Of course I stopped and started to take photos…..

And then I turned the car around and tried to take some more piccies.  I couldn’t stay for long as a) it kept flying off and b) I needed to get Pepper home as she was very unimpressed with her plastic head gear and I didn’t want her to get into a state.

I am asking around my bird-watching friends who know these things to get a confirmation of what it actually is.  Apparently there have been sightings of a juvenile white tail eagle (sea-eagle) recently.  This one has taken up with an assorted flock of corvids.

I won’t lie, I was hoping for a golden eagle confirmation but this is pretty fabulous too.

To see such an amazing bird flying free in the wild is truly beautiful.  I’ve never seen any eagle  so to me this is incredible.
