Hugs for Monster

When OH said this morning that Monster hadn’t eaten his midnight snack or his breakfast, I stood in the field, whilst feeding the Oldies, and phoned the veterinary surgery for an appointment (we were in the middle of a powercut and that’s the only place for a phone signal).

“Can you get here for 09.45” I was asked by the Surgery.
“Oh yes, whatever it takes”, I replied and shovelled Monster into his travel basket (he put up a fight, which I won) and off we drove.

In the surgery waiting room I gave Monster a good view to inspire him.

All vital signs were normal, nothing to write home about, but he was given an anti-emetic injection, long acting antibiotic injection as well as some painkillers and we drove home, with Monster answering any questions I asked him.

Me (driving): “are you ok?”
Monster: “Yes, still here!”

And so to bed afterwards.  Fair enough. Travel is always horrid.

This afternoon, Monster was around in my shed while a friend and I played flute duets.

He even wanted a shot and probably sounded better than we did.

But I am worried.

OH said he wouldn’t eat his tea – freshly cooked chicken.  Nope. Monster left it and turned away.  That is not like him.

And has taken to his bed.  Worried?  Yes, I am.  For Monster not to eat is like me giving up chocolate.  We will see how we go this weekend or it is back to the vet we go on Monday.  So hugs for Monster, please. He is not himself and I hate that.

Many polite hugs for Monster, poor fellow. A dodgy mouse? Or possibly a UTI, which I understand boy cats are more prone to? I hope he picks up over the weekend and you are not scooting him back to the vet.

Oh dear, I’m sorry to hear this. Prayers going up for Monster to get well soon. I hope he starts eating again this weekend, otherwise I know, off he goes again to the vet. I was just telling my husband tonight about your two dogs and monster, who go on walks with you. and I told him that sometimes even some of your sheep will walk with you! You have an amazing blog Frances….I love every one of your critters. Hope Monster will be back to normal very soon.

Feel better, Monster! (He isn’t constipated is he? One of my cats goes totally off her feed when that happens, but it’s easier to keep on top of since, as a city cat, she stays indoors.)

So, so sorry to hear that Monster is ailing. I hope he turns around quickly and regains his appetite for food and life in general. My Maremma dog, Bessie, was sick last night and just acted depressed. This morning I checked, and she had a fever, which I figured out is from anaplasmosis, a tick-borne disease. Do you have ticks where you are? It does cause animals (and people) to experience loss of appetite, vomiting, lack of energy, and high fever. It is easy to treat with Doxycycline. Bess is already feeling much better and has regained her appetite. I was just wondering if this is something that Monster could have. Anyway, please give my very best and sincere wishes to Monster for a speedy recovery.

So sorry to hear Monster is not doing well. I hope he’s improved by Monday.

I was quite startled recently to see a Monsterish cat at Stanford University, walking on the trunk of one of the thousands of huge old oak trees that has fallen in the storms. But he was wearing a harness, which I was certain Monster wouldn’t put up with and wouldn’t need. I’ll email a photo. Cheers, C

Sending lots of hugs and get well vibes to your gorgeous boy Monster. Hope he gets well soon and you get to the bottom of it. I sometimes wish they could talk and tell you how they feel, it would make things easier. Lots of love from Cheshire.

He has been on a diet. We were trying so hard to get some weight off him as he was a bit too big.

Little Miss Maine Coon says “feel better, Monster!” I hate when our cats turn off the Universal Translator when they don’t feel well.
