Haakon is far from pain-free and I will confess that I am very worried about him. I spoke to the vet today and we are doubling his analgesia over the weekend to reassess the situation on Monday.
Also this week Monster has been a regular visitor to the vet. He is sneezing, lethargic and very off colour (yes, even a white cat). It could be an upper respiratory tract infection. So he is busy feeling very sorry for himself, though perks up at the sight of food still so he can’t be that bad. Daily, I battle the prescribed pills/liquids down him which I disguise in his food. So far he is not refusing and just thinks he is fed a lot, which is nice. But poor boy is far from well.
So, back with the worry that is Haakon. He is being kept quiet and a friend suggested wrapping hot towels around his hocks to help with the stiffness. After the hot towels, I also rubbed in Deep Heat cream to warm the joint.
As always, Haakon was a good boy and munched his hay peacefully while Floss and I worked out the best method to do all this.
It was a family affair.
Haakon played his game of wuffle-the-hand to see if there were hidden carrots. He has always done this. It’s his thing.
Her Maj took to her throne and offered her support from a distance.
At the moment it feels like everyone is ill and I need them to be better. I wish they could just be how they always were – fine, going along happily and healthy.
(* sorry for the whinge *)
This is not “whinging” (perhaps misspelled); it’s just things as they are and you’re trying to fix them. Warm thoughts sent your way for Haakon. None of the decisions you make now are easy.
A toast to health and happiness!
nYou are a typical Mom worrying about her babies , Wouldnt it be wonderful if life couldjust go on on a even keel , same for all of us humans…. Hope everything turns out for the best.
Poor Haakon. Would he be better living in at night for a few days to keep his joints warm and allow him to lie on a soft comfortable bed? I used stable boots with a soft padded liner for my boy when he had a short period of being really uncomfortable.
I have thought about keeping him in but I think he would be stiffer and would fret. He hates being indoors. I don’t really know what to do for the best, tbh. At least if he is with his friends, he is wandering around the field. In the stable, he won’t move.
I know how upsetting it is when our furry family is not doing well. Thinking of you and wishing for the best possible recovery for everyone.
I don’t take this as whinging, Frances – everything you write is about sharing your life (and I thank you for that).
I’m SO sorry to hear about Haakon; how we suffer when our animal babies aren’t well!
Good thoughts and prayers sent…
So sorry about all your babies. Hope everyone is soon well again. Hugs to you, Frances.
I feel for you, Frances. Never easy when our beloved animals are unwell. Fingers crossed your vet can help on Monday.
Perhaps Haakon will rally with the additional pain-killer meds. (fingers crossed)
One of my kitties (indoor cats because of coyotes) recently had a respiratory tract infection (sneezing, ear infection, listlessness, but good appetite). With the help of ear drops and meds he recovered completely, but it took a couple of weeks before he was 100%. Totally normal to worry/whinge, no apologies needed. Each family member is so special.
Poor Haakon! I hope the hot compresses help him and that he feels better soon and ditto for the poor puss! Love to you all x
I hope the change in medication does the trick. Sending lots of love. xxx
Hoping your boys will be feeling better soon. I know they have the best mommy to take care of them. and also nurses human and otherwise.
Oh dear….so sad to hear that not only is Haakon not getting better, but now monster is sick too! I remember how upsetting it was when our pets used to get sick. Hope that everybody at your place will be much better soon!
Sending love and prayers for comfort all around.
Don’t apologise for the whinge – it is so awful when our pets are not well (if only they could talk – (sometimes anyway). Do hope that Haakon and Monster are feeling better very soon. I know it can be such a worry. Sending lots of love and get well vibes.
Oh Frances, it is so hard. Sending good vibes.
Sorry to hear HAakon and Monster are feeling poorly. Sending healing thoughts across the pond.
