Twas the Night Before Christmas

A Thordale Christmas is full of tradition. However, a lot of preparation goes into maintaining these traditions.

The first tradition is the construction of our “real and authentic” pine tree with our miscellaneous tree decorations gathered over the years and from various locations.

Lambie, of course, makes an appearance.  For some reason he has wings and why not.

Of course, Lambie doesn’t in real life – yet!   (to be arranged, maybe – Lambie would love wings – he would flutter, Mavis Cruet like, over our croft.  It would be beautiful – and yes, I may have had gin.)

We have various Tomte – or nisse or tomtenisse – who have always been living in our tree.  That is a 20 year old Thordale tradition and one everyone remembers.  Tomte are very important to us.

Then there is the Ye Olde Wolde Thordale Yule Log.

It is a work of art and a trial to create.  I leave OH and Daisy to do the thatching and they never cease to amaze me with their abilities.

This year I bought a flock of sheep to decorate the Log with.  As usual, they were smaller than I expected.  That’s Ebay for you!

But I like to think that the new additions to the Thordale Family have been included.  Even in a teeny-tiny way.  (OH said they looked like maggots)

So that is us, ready for Christmas and I may feel slightly sick from eating some of the Yule Log.

Happy Christmas everyone xx

A very Merry Christmas to you and yours (human and animal alike)!
Tomtes abound here too – my mother was Swedish. (Although the dog almost ate one this year – at least he didn’t make it past the beard…)

P.S. Your Yule Log looks like something I’d like to curl up with under a table somewhere.

(Ummm, sorry, by I gotta go with OH on this one — they do look like you-know-whats.) But the log is beautiful in its own way. At least Lambie was included — and a new tradition has begun. Thank you for another year of smiles and laughter (and a few tears). Wishing a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the entire ‘Clan Thordale’! xx
PS Enjoy your G+Ts, you deserve a little relaxation.

Merry Christmas to all at Thordale. Love to learn of other family traditions. Ours is cold cut sandwiches followed by far too many yummy cookies on the 24th. I would love to see Lambie in wings!!!!!!

Whoa, okay that was a cool anomaly/accent to throw a Chinese dragon into the Yule log. Hohohoooo! And so it goes. Happy Christmas to you and yours Frances!

I have made several Yule logs in the past and they ARE a lot of work – but so delish! Yours is really neat and I for one think the lambs are a nice touch. 😉 Save them for the Easter cake as well!
