The Cast

Someone said, and it has been mentioned by others, that they don’t know who everyone is when I write about them.

So I think I should have a Cast List.

The Minions

Waffle – 10 year old midi Shetland pony gelding (rescue).
A dude – easy and helpful, a total sweetheart.

Silver – 10 year old midi Shetland pony gelding (rescue).
An aloof dude but gentle and kind.

Storm – 10 year old miniature Shetland pony gelding (rescue)
** sighs ** – cheeky, funny, annoying idiot, the class clown who refuses to grow up.

Tiddles – 9 year old miniature Shetland pony gelding (rescue)
A total sweetie.  Never a mean word.

Albie – 7 year old miniature Shetland gelding (an orphan).
Gorgeous, a darling. A Mummy’s boy who has grown up to be a little handsome chap.

Newt – 7 year old miniature Shetland gelding (“free-to-good-home” on Facebook).
Tiny (28″ high), possibly a Russian spy with his Book of Revenge.  No one is safe but utterly enchanting (this is his pathetic face – it fools no one).

Other Shetlands

Vitamin – 29 year old standard Shetland pony mare (retired).
Going slightly dotty in her senior years but still the boss.  She is magnificent.

Fivla – 27 year old midi Shetland pony mare (retired).
Quiet and calm, an absolute darling.  Always helpful, kind and never pushy.

The Big Horses

Haakon – 29 year old Icelandic horse gelding (retired).
My boy. My horse forever.  Gentle, kind, exciting and totally trustworthy.

iacs (aka Bimble) – 28 year old Icelandic horse gelding (retired).
Glass-half-full kind of chap.  An optimistic goldfish with the brains of a bunny rabbit.

Kolka –  28 year old Icelandic horse mare (retired).

Other Family

Lambie – 8s year old neutered Shetland sheep (fleckit).
My little soldier with a Winning Smile.  He likes classical music and marmite on toast.

‘Ster, short for Lambster – 8 year old neutered Shetland sheep (katmoget).
Mostly full of confidence but can be needy.  Has terrible separation anxiety.

‘Bert, short for Lambert – an 8 year old neutered Shetland sheep (moorit).
A sensible boy who loves his carrots and his hugs.

Edna – a Shetland ewe of advanced years and no teeth. She was dumped in the hill. A darling girl who is living her best life now.

Madge – possibly Edna’s daughter and a Shetland/Suffolk cross. Nervous but trying very hard to be tame.  Mostly failing on that score.

Maggie – a Shetland hill sheep who adopted us.  She just turned up.  Who knows how old but arrived pregnant, wild and desperate to be loved. Follows me everywhere.

Harrel-the-Barrel – a two year old Shetland neutered male – who arrived in his Mummy’s (Maggie) tummy. Spoilt, happy, pushy and very greedy. Makes everyone laugh.

Monster – ex-tomcat rescue around 10 years old.
Huge, strong, talkative, laid back family cat who settled in immediately.

Pepper – our Patterdale puppy. Determined, wilful, disobedient, funny and enchanting.

Teddy – my mother’s dog who I promised to look after.  Ted is about 8 years old.  He is learning our ways and is very good with Pepper and getting better with Monster.

So, there you are and now you know xx

Thank you for this! A real “cast of characters” eh?

Also love that photo on the right-hand side of you with your sheepy trio!

Thanks for the review of your lovely creatures — sometimes I get the equine youngsters mixed up (because you keep adding more, haha!). Just noticed the photo of you and the Boyzenberries at the upper right — GREAT PHOTO!

I knew the cast but LOVE having them all listed and pictured in one place! Great idea, but even THINKING of doing this for my critters makes me tired…and I only have 17, not counting the chickens.

Thank you for this, I actually had them all but I wasn´t sure until now. The real challenge is that you are adding to the bunch a lot, like a lot. But I will try to keep up =) Did all the minion-rescues come from the same place at the same time? And also, can you please elaborate on the funny smell?

Waffle, Storm and Silver were the original rescues (nearly starved to death).
Tiddles was waiting for the vet to put him to sleep as he has a blue eye. A heinous crime up here.
Albie’s mother was shot (broken pelvis) this spring
and Newt was free-to-a-good-home on Facebook.

They find me. I can’t say no. If they need me, here I am.

That post introducing everyone was so, so helpful. Now I know who you are talking about. You are so lucky having all these creatures and from what I have read, they are so, so lucky to have you caring for them. Kind regards.

Fantastic. Now, who’s going to do the annotated version? You know, the one that spells out who’s related to whom; which horse belongs to which daughter; who lives in which field; who fell in the sinkhole (I still shudder to think of that) and other various misadventures; and a map. We need a map. 🙂 Could not enjoy your blog more.

Thank you now I have most of the cast figured out. 😉
My hubby says to me “don’t get any ideas” we are down to 3 feral cats (one (Grayson) who has been with us 5 years, and comes to eat when we call) we always make sure there is feed in the barn for any weary travelers. I am trying to tempt Grayson to become an inside fellow). Three inside cats who used to be feral barn cats are now spoiled cats. Cats can’t go outside here because they become coyote bait. Of course my 22 ducks, that started with a pair I got from 4H kids and then….6 runners added to the flock in Dec. when their owner had to have knee surgery and couldn’t take care of them anymore. so… One “special” fellow (named DJ) has been with us 3 years now. He was given to us from wildlife rescue when he came in with frostbite 0n the webs of his feet. The tissue became necrotic and fell off off. So he walks a bit like a chicken. He still gets around enough to “bugger ” the girls.
