Spring Equinox

“Spring Equinox 2017 in Northern Hemisphere was at 10:28 on Monday, 20 March”

Today is officially the beginning of Spring.  The first day leading towards a gorgeous spring and, hopefully, wonderful summer (please, please, please).

Although it has not been a hard winter, everywhere is wet and mud.  We are all very fed up and just want the grass to grow.

I spent the afternoon dropping off post, driving around a bit and generally taking photos in the drizzle that is the newly arrived Shetland spring weather, replacing the sheet rain and gales for the time being.

I have it on good authority that these are Widgeons (Anas penelope).  I wish they had been a bit nearer – they were very pretty, especially Mr W.  I might, on a nice day, go and have another look for some more.  I have a soft spot for ducks.

Visibility in the drizzle was not brilliant but still, Shetland looks good in most weathers.

There is a point, though, when it is raining too much for me to take my camera out.

So I just stayed in the car and drove around enjoying the scenery.

Roll on Spring, please.  Off we go.  Green grass and sitting outside!

So glad you are up and about. Please don’t overdo. Take care of your back 😉 easy for me to say HUH.

Spring arrived here in New Mexico (Western USA) at 6:28 AM. The fruit trees are blooming in prolific colors, unfortunately we have prediction of a cold spell arriving, that will probably mean the buds will be pinched an no fruit this year. At least the bees are having a high ‘ol time.

So glad you have a “soft spot for ducks”. We have 15 ducks. Mostly runner ducks (look them up/ they are the clowns of the duck world.) A couple of mallards and some cayugas (who have beautiful irridescent black feathers). Some evenings (before the moquitoes get too bad and blood thirsty) we sit out and watch the ducks look for worms, and swim and gnerally enjoy life. They remind me of how I “waddle” at times. (when my back and knees are not letting me have a normal gait.
    All the Best,
    Colleen

I wish we had some hint of spring in New England. We have an up and down weather pattern – Wednesdays are warmish but the weekends are frigid and usually have some snow. Done with this nonsense! I need me some green grass.

This past weekend was beautiful spring weather, but today it is back to winter temps and cold rain…boo.
Hope you are healing up and feeling a bit better!

Wednesday morning and it’s bright, the blue broken up with fluffy white clouds; temp is going to be max 8C here with a 14mph SW wind, according to the Beeb.
Glad to see you still have a “real” phone box there. BT has removed a lot around here because of lack of use, but some villages are ‘adopting’ them and getting defibrillators installed. BT seem happy with the arrangement and the villages keep their traditional look.

I think everyone is looking forward to Spring. Although we have not had it very cold in Cheshire, England it seems to have never stopped raining. Fed up with the garden just being mud and more mud. We really are due some nice bright, dry Spring days – what a difference that would make. Your photo’s are absolutely stunning. I really, really like the first one. From what I have seen from your photo’s I agree with you, Shetland does look good in most weathers. I hope that sitting outside after work in the garden with a glass of wine is not too far into the distant future.

Love these photos. Scotland has a kind of stark beauty. The second one is especially intriguing, because the ‘crofthoose’ is so close to the stream/burn. (or did the stream meander toward the house later?)
Spring is still teasing us in the Pacific NW — one day sunny, then days upon days of rain and mud. Enough already!
